iFinance 3 does not work on macOS Sierra or macOS High Sierra. How can I access my data?

Why iFinance 3 will not run on macOS 10.12 Sierra or macOS 10.13 High Sierra:

In 2007 Apple introduced a new memory management technology called “Garbage Collection“. Although heavily promoted, this technology was later declared deprecated and will no longer be supported in macOS 10.12 Sierra. Consequences for apps using Garbage Collection are severe: They cannot be launched anymore. Since iFinance 3 uses this technology it will not run on macOS Sierra.

What can I do to archive my account information ?

If you are still running OS X 10.11 El Capitan or older, iFinance 3 allows you to export your information either as CSV file or iFinance 3 Archive-file. If you already migrated to macOS Sierra or macOS High Sierra, there is unfortunately no way to launch iFinance 3 any longer.

I want to continue using iFinance, what can I do?

Unfortunately the only way is 1) not to update to macOS Sierra 10.12 or 2) to purchase iFinance 4. iFinance 4 is available at the Mac App Store. If you launch iFinance 4, you can access all of your iFinance 3 databases. iFinance 4 sells for just US$39.99. How can I import my database from iFinance 3 into iFinance 4?

Simply click on “Import Database…” in the startup window of iFinance 4. Select your iFinance 3 database and your data will automatically migrate to version 4.
