Frequently asked questions about MacFamilyTree 8

How can I download the free update from 8.0 to 8.1?
For all customers who bought Version 8.0, the update to Version 8.1 is completely free. Please open the Mac App Store on your Mac and check the Updates tab at the very top to download MacFamilyTree 8.1 for free. Be sure to use the same Apple ID / App Store account as with your original purchase. If the update does not show up, please restart the Mac. It happens that the App Store hangs and fails to display pending updates.
Does CloudTree work in iOS 9 or OS X 10.11 El Capitan?
No, CloudTree requires iOS 10 or macOS 10.12 Sierra to work. If you’re synchronizing your devices using CloudTree, all Macs, iPhones and iPads must either run iOS 10 or macOS 10.12 Sierra in order to download and upload trees to CloudTree.
I bought MacFamilyTree 8 - why do I have to purchase MobileFamilyTree 8, too?
MacFamilyTree and MobileFamilyTree are two separate apps. While they work perfectly as a team, both apps are able to function without the iOS or Mac companion. If you use a Mac but no iPhone/iPad, you don’t require MobileFamilyTree. If you just want to pursue you family research on iPhone or iPad, you don’t require MacFamilyTree. iOS apps always have to be purchased separately and Apple offers no way to buy a Mac and iOS app bundle at the same time. This is way you have to buy MobileFamilyTree separately. If you opt for MobileFamilyTree 8, you get a version that works on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – one purchase, three platforms.
How can I import a family tree created with a different app?
Every modern genealogy app offers GEDCOM import and export. GEDCOM is a universal genealogical file format which allows you to exchange your data easily. If you want to import a tree created with a different app, export it as a GEDCOM file then import that file with MacFamilyTree.
The Interactive Tree looks somehow blurry!
You are probably using a standard resolution monitor and no Retina display, right? We are currently researching while Apple’s graphic framework displays lines and text not as crisp as it should be. Since it’s a system issue, digging for the reasons is more complicated than if it was simply a code issue in MacFamilyTree
